Below the metal tray from left to right we see my torque wrench, 1/2” drive socket wrench breaker bar, 1/2” drive ratcheting socket wrench, 16mm 6-point wrench, 1/2” drive 19mm 6-point impact socket, 1/2” drive 19mm 6-point socket, 1/2” drive socket wrench extension bar, socket adapter from 3/8" drive to 1/2" drive, and 3/8" drive 8mm hex socket bit. Notice on the tray one of the Mobil-1 ATF bottles has its black cap replaced with a bottle cap with a washer, twist open/close flow control, clear tube, and removable plug. On the metal tray is my container for catching used oils, two 1-quart bottles of Mobil-1 synthetic automatic transmission fluid (ATF), paper towels, and the red lid for the container of used oils. In the next "row" we see my pair of plastic yellow wheel chocks, VUE jack resting on a block of wood, and jack stand. In this picture we can see all the things I used when changing the transmission fluid. Optional: flat metal tray, cardboard, or newspaper to place under the container for catching transmission fluid in case there are any splashes or spills.Optional: block of wood to place under the jack.Optional: socket wrench breaker bar or "flex handle." Some sort of oil suction gun may also be used. I prefer a screw-on bottle cap with a washer, twist open/close flow control, clear tube, and removable plug. Funnel with tube or something similar as the fill plug is located on the side of the transmission.2 quarts (about 1.9 liters) synthetic transmission fluid.(Note that although these worked at the time I posted this information, at some point in the future they might fail.) Most of these items have hyperlinks to show what I am writing about. For my 2004 VUE I prefer Mobil-1 synthetic ATF because it meets GM Dexron III specifications, is readily available, and is fairly priced. Any should be acceptable as long as they meet or exceed the transmission fluid standards as specified in the "Recommended Fluids & Lubricants" section of the VUE's owner manual. There are also choices for synthetic blends of transmission fluid. There are several brand choices for synthetic transmission fluid such as Mobil-1, AMSOIL, RedLine, B & M, Royal Purple, Castrol, Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, etc. Before starting get synthetic transmission fluid and make sure you have tools and "shop supplies."
